Over 7 weeks the students worked through their Entrepreneurship courses. Mr Pap Talla, their teacher, received regular reports and updates from the EtonX team on the students’ progress. Mr Pap Talla organised workshops with the students to go over the concepts, organised discussions with entrepreneurs and created a school club to allow the students to raise funds for their projects.
When the students had completed their courses, they were presented with their signed transcripts and they then participated in their first Shark Tank event.
We spoke to Seyna, Pap Talla’s intern about the event. Here is what she had to say:
“The Shark Tank event went so well! There were 4 groups of students, each of them prepared a pitch and presented it to a jury of 4 “potential investors” in under 2 minutes. Each one of the jury members then asked them very specific questions that were not always easy in order to push their ideas and reflection as far as possible.
They were asked, for example, how they are planning to make profits, if what they are saying is based on actual research, if what they are proposing is a real-life problem and why, how id they calculate the amount of funding they are asking for, how exactly they are planning to start their projects and where, how to tackle some problems that may appear… The students’ answers were so well-founded with facts that they were compared to professionals!
Most parents were present and everyone, including Pap and I, were absolutely impressed. We received great feedback from everyone, especially from parents, who have told us this kind of extra-curricular activities are exactly the reason why their children are in our school instead of anywhere else!”
