Case study: Isabella, China
Isabella is from China and completed an EtonX course with us two years ago. Since taking her course, she successfully got into the University of Birmingham to study Education Studies. She is currently in the first year of her university experience which is also her first year of studying abroad. We spoke to her about her EtonX experience in a short interview.
“EtonX broke such a traditional framework. It was so flexible, and students were able to participate more in lessons.”
Case study: Ola, Poland
Ola is from Poland and she recently finished her Critical Thinking course. Here she gives us an insight into her fellow classmates, her tutor and how she uses her EtonX course in her every day life.
“I studied with students from other countries, Russia and Greece and more… and we were all very different! We had different point of views and interests, but we all got along very well. It was very interesting to see what others think about the same thing and how they can see it from another perspective.”
Case study: Alina, Poland
Alina is a parent of one of our students’ and she spoke to us about her experience with EtonX as a parent.
“You can learn academic skills anywhere, but what’s needed are the soft skills to be able to communicate with people on international projects, to think, to be creative… all these things are a base for future careers.”
“I think the international experience with teens from other countries was also something so enriching and in terms of language practise and also cultural awareness. You could compare your ideas, the way you speak and interact and that was something I observed from this very positive experience.”
What our students say
“In general I can describe my experience during the course as highly important for my professional and personal development as I started to understand myself and others better and finally came to understanding how to control my behavior and make use of it to articulate my point clearer. I think of it as a crucial experience for me as I still use the pieces of information I’ve got from there and I’d love to learn more by attending your new course.”
“During summer I participated in Public Speaking course and now I can say that these lessons significantly changed my life. With help of this program I won the presidential election and became the head of my Lyceum (high school). Nowadays I use gained knowledge in my everyday life and I know how to behave in front of large number of people or how to attract attention to myself.
Thanks to EtonX for this opportunity. Wishes come true.”
“You get to know new people and you will have a wonderful tutor, who is very helpful and accompany you through the course. You will improve your communication skills, by talking with others and doing your weekly tasks. Additionally, you will learn things in a modern way.”
Long Kim, Germany
“First of all, I’ve become more self-confident. Now it’s much easier to understand reactions of my interlocutors and I can think about its reasons. Thank you for such an opportunity!”
“I enjoyed the course very much. The atmosphere of the classes was great, the theory was well structured and easy to remember, I got a chance to understand my public speaking strengths and weaknesses so much better.”
“My EtonX course helped me to build better relationships with my friends and family. I’d just like to add that I really enjoyed the combination of the video group parts and self study parts of the course. Like this it was possible to internalize the content.”
It is vital that we also support young people to develop non-academic skills, such as communication, team working and time management, which of course are also highly prized by employers.
Dame Martina Milburn, The Prince’s Trust ‘Results for Life’ report
Communication seemed to me something very important from early on, so that people not have that sense of mystery about what a leader is up to.
Drew Gilpin Faust, President of Harvard
While the pressure to do well academically is ever-present, young people in schools and colleges across the UK are worried that they don’t have what it takes to cut it in the workplace – where soft skills, including communication, team work and the ability to build relationships, underpin almost everything they will be required to do.
